From the dusty roads of the East Coast Demerara to the world stage, Better Hope village has produced athletes whose achievements transcend generations. These are the legends who define our club's spirit.
Better Hope's greatest athlete and one of Guyana's most celebrated distance runners. A dominant force who represented British Guiana and Guyana on the international stage.
Moses Dwarka, known as "The Barefoot King," is one of Better Hope's most legendary athletes. A dominant force in half-marathon and distance running, Dwarka represented British Guiana and later Guyana at international competitions across the Caribbean and beyond, including venues in Chicago, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Venezuela, and Grenada.
He participated in the 1959 Pan American Championship representing British Guiana and represented Guyana at the Commonwealth Games. He competed alongside Harry Prowell — who went on to represent Guyana at the 1968 Olympics — forming one of the most formidable distance running partnerships in the country's history.
Awarded by the Guyana Government in recognition of his outstanding contribution to athletics and his representation of the nation on the international stage.
A street in Better Hope was officially named in his honour, unveiled on February 17, 2018 — a permanent testament to his legacy in the village he called home.
"In Recognition Of Your Sterling Contribution To Athletics In The Better Hope Community" — presented by Betterhope Sports Club, February 2014.
His career alongside rival Harry Prowell was featured in the Booker News, chronicling their combined 5,000 miles of running and massive trophy collection spanning a 10-year career.
Guyana's reigning darts champion and one of the Caribbean's most decorated players. A PDC World Championship qualifier who dominates the national and regional stage.
Sudesh Fitzgerald, also known as “His Majesty,” is a Guyanese professional darts player and Better Hope's pride. He won the 2008 Caribbean and South American Masters, qualifying him for the 2009 PDC World Darts Championship, where he faced Charles Losper in the preliminary round. He reached the semi-finals of the 2008 WDF Americas Cup Singles and has gone on to accumulate every major national title and record in Guyanese darts.
A beloved captain who led Better Hope's cricket team and served as a pillar of the community. Roy Singh's dedication to the sport and the village remains an enduring inspiration.
Roy Singh was the heart and soul of Better Hope cricket. As captain of the club's cricket team, he led by example both on and off the field, earning the respect of teammates, opponents, and the entire community. His leadership helped shape a generation of cricketers in Better Hope and his legacy continues to inspire the club's sporting programmes today.
